Why Go To The Pocono Mountains?
Clocking in at just around 3 hours from Philadelphia, the Pocono Mountains have long been the perfect combination of convenient and remote, known for a wide array of exciting outdoor adventures, from mountain biking to whitewater rafting to aerial ropes courses.
Now a new adventure race has joined the party from Kinetic Multisports – the Poconos Triathlon Festival, held over 3 days in June on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wallenpaupack. A “festival” in the truest sense of the word, this USA Triathlon-sanctioned event features 3 separate races with both triathlon (swim-bike-run) and aquabike (swim-bike) courses, spectator-friendly events, and fun post-race activities.
Choose the full Long Course, the shorter and less daunting Olympic Course, or the Sunday Sprint Course. You can race a Saturday course and the Sunday sprint, or if you’re feeling extreme, you can tackle the Poconos Challenge, which consists of a Swim-Run Prologue on Friday, the Long Course on Saturday, and the Sunday Sprint.

Only racing one day? There are plenty of reasons to stay for the weekend. Lakes, rivers, and waterfalls offer everything from a relaxing day of paddling to an exciting whitewater adventure. Or if trees are more your thing, you’ll love the scenic hiking opportunities, not to mention several woodland adventure courses, featuring treetop bridge walks, ziplines, and bungee trampolines.
And if your need for speed just can’t be contained, you’ll definitely want to make sure you hit the alpine slides in the area. (What’s an alpine slide? Think open-air roller coaster down the side of a mountain.) Or spend the afternoon trying your hand behind the wheel of a NASCAR-style stock car at the Pocono Raceway.
